S&P 500 E-Mini Futures Market News and Commentary

Stocks Mixed on Strength in Chipmakers and Weakness in Cisco Systems

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is up +0.20%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) is up +0.32%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is down -0.10%. March E-mini S&P futures (ESH26) are up +0.26%, and March E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQH26) are down -0.13%.

Stock indexes are mixed today. Sandisk is up more than +8% to lead AI-infrastructure stocks higher on signs of strong global demand for NAND memory chips after Japanese chipmaker Kioxia Holdings forecasted higher demand for the technology needed to store and transfer the massive amounts of data employed in AI. However, Cisco Systems is down -9% to limit gains in tech stocks after saying that higher memory-chip prices are expected to eat into its profitability.

Also, a decline in bond yields is supportive of stocks, as the 10-year T-note yield fell by 2 bp to 4.15% after weekly jobless claims fell less than expected. US weekly initial unemployment claims fell -5,000 to 227,000, showing a slightly wea... Read more
