Jim Van Meerten
Jim Van Meerten is a financial analyst and investor best known for his work as a Barchart.com analyst and author of the popular daily investment newsletter “Chart of the Day,” which highlights stocks with compelling technical setups. He is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and has a long background in finance, law, and education.
Van Meerten holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Berry College and a Juris Doctorate from the Woodrow Wilson School of Law. He has completed post-baccalaureate and graduate coursework in Business Administration, Quantitative Math, and Education from Florida Atlantic University, Georgia State University, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has also passed the Georgia CPA Exam, the Certified Internal Auditor Exam, and the FINRA Series 7, 24, and 9/10 exams
Before becoming a full-time analyst, Van Meerten worked as an accountant, an attorney, a financial advisor, a supervisory principal and compliance officer, and an adjunct professor in Business Law, Accounting, and Internal Auditing.
He is currently an analyst at Barchart.com, where he uses the platform’s screeners, technical indicators, and trading signals to identify stocks for his “Chart of the Day” picks. His investment style is long-only momentum-based, focusing on stocks with strong technical buy signals and high current momentum.
