Short Interest Stocks (Nov 28th, 2025)

Wed, Dec 24th, 2025

Short interest represents the total number of a stock’s outstanding shares that have been sold short but not yet covered. Short float measures the short interest as a percentage of the shares outstanding. A high short float (typically above 10%) can signal bearish sentiment, as traders are betting on lower prices to buy back shares at a profit. However, if the stock begins to rise, this positioning can fuel a short squeeze, where short sellers rush to buy shares to cover, driving prices even higher. Days to cover (or the short interest ratio) is calculated by dividing short interest by a stock’s average daily trading volume. A higher ratio (typically above 5) suggests it may take longer for short sellers to exit their positions, increasing the potential for a squeeze. The short sale volume ratio, updated daily, is calculated by dividing FINRA-reported short sale volume by total trading volume for the same day. A rising ratio can indicate growing bearish sentiment, while a declining ratio suggests a more bullish tone.
