Nasdaq 100 E-Mini Futures Market News and Commentary

U.S. Stock Indexes Close Lower on Weak Economic Data and a Slide in Technology Stocks

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) on Thursday closed down -0.84%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) closed down -0.47%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) closed down -0.48%.

U.S. stock indexes on Thursday moved lower on negative carry-over from Wednesday afternoon's comments from Fed Chair Powell. Stocks remained lower on Thursday's weaker-than-expected U.S. economic data.

Stocks opened lower Thursday morning on negative carry-over from Wednesday when Fed Chair Powell said he's unsure if the faster-than-expected economic recovery will continue. Powell also said the Fed is "satisfied" with the current size and shape of its asset purchase program, which dashed hopes that the Fed might expand its QE program.

Thursday's U.S. economic data was bearish for stocks. Weekly initial unemployment claims fell -33,000 to 860,000, showing a weaker labor market than expectations of 850,000. Also, Aug housing starts fell -5.1% to 1.416 million, weaker than expectations of 1.488 mil... Read more
