S&P 500 E-Mini Futures Market News and Commentary

Stocks Closer Higher on Strength in Tech Stocks

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) on Friday closed +0.77%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) closed +0.44%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) closed +1.78%.

The S&P 500 index Friday morning saw early weakness on a slump in energy stocks, but was then led higher by a sharp rally in tech stocks and the Nasdaq 100 index. After the close Thursday, the big-name technology stocks of Apple, Amazon, and Google all reported impressive results. Apple soared by +10.34% on Friday and Amazon closed +3.57%. Alphabet gave up overnight gains and closed the day down -3.28%.

Stock prices on Friday managed to shake off the lack of progress in negotiations for a new pandemic bill since another round of negotiations was scheduled for Saturday. House Speaker Pelosi and White House chief of staff Meadows traded barbs on Friday.
