Russell 2000 E-Mini Futures Market News and Commentary
The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) this morning is down -1.38%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) is down -1.32%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) is down -1.86%.
U.S. stock indexes are sharply lower this morning with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 Index at 2-1/2 week lows and the Dow Jones Industrials at a 3-week low as the spread of the deadly Chinese coronavirus is fueling concern the global economy will slow.
Concerns intensified over the weekend as the China coronavirus spread quickly. The latest data show 2,744 confirmed cases of the virus with 80 deaths. Mainland China accounts for 98% of confirmed global infections but the virus has spread to more than 12 other countries. On Sunday, China announced an extension of its Lunar New Year holiday until Feb 2 from Jan 30 to help battle the spread of the virus.
