Cocoa #7 Futures Market News and Commentary

Cocoa Prices Sink to 2-Year Lows on Ample Supplies and Weak Demand

March ICE NY cocoa (CCH26) on Thursday closed down -130 (-3.46%), and March ICE London cocoa #7 (CAH26) closed down -126 (-4.61%).

Cocoa prices extended their six-week-long plunge on Thursday, with NY cocoa falling to a 2.25-year nearest-futures low and London cocoa sliding to a 2.5-year low.   Robust global supplies and slack demand are weighing on cocoa prices.  

On January 29, StoneX forecasted a global cocoa surplus of 287,000 MT in the 2025/26 season and a 267,000 MT surplus for 2026/27.  Also, the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) reported on January 23 that global cocoa stocks rose 4.2% y/y to 1.1 MMT.

Abundant ICE-monitored cocoa inventories are negative for prices.  ICE cocoa inventories rose to a 4-month high of 1,899,988 bags on Thursday.
