Coffee Futures Market News and Commentary

Coffee Prices Settle Mixed and Consolidate Monday's Sharp Losses

September arabica coffee (KCU24) on Tuesday closed up +1.45 (+0.60%), and Sep ICE robusta coffee (RMU24) closed down -11 (-0.24%).

Coffee prices Tuesday settled closed mixed as they consolidated Monday's sharp losses.  Robusta gave up an early advance and turned lower after ICE-monitored robusta coffee inventories rose to a 1-year high Tuesday of 6,098 lots, signaling increased supplies.

Arabica coffee on Monday fell to a 1-week low after recent rain in Brazil alleviated concerns about dryness.  Somar Meteorologia reported Monday that Brazil's Minas Gerais region received 4.6 mm of rain last week, or 329% of the historical average.  Minas Gerais accounts for about 30% of Brazil's arabica crop.
