10-Year T-Note Futures Market News and Commentary

10-year T-notes Up Slightly on Weak Chinese Data and Dovish Fed Comments

Dec T-notes (ZNZ19) this morning is up +3 ticks and the 10-year T-note yield is down -0.7 bp to 1.745%. T-note prices are higher this morning after today's data showed China's economy grew less than expected, which is dovish for Fed policy, and as dovish Fed comments support expectations for additional Fed interest rate cuts. Today's data showed China Q3 GDP rose +6.0% y/y, weaker than expectations of +6.1% y/y and the slowest pace since the early 1990s. The weak data signals a slowdown in the global economy that may prompt the Fed to expand stimulus measures. Comments today from Dallas Fed President Kaplan suggest he may favor additional Fed rate cuts and gave T-note prices a boost when he said, "global growth is decelerating due to trade tensions and the U.S. is not immune to slowing global growth."
