Lean Hogs Futures Market News and Commentary

Hogs Rallying to Kick Off the Week

Lean hog futures are trading with contracts up $1.47 to $2.60 so far on Monday. The national average base hog negotiated price was reported at $77.62 on Monday morning, down 36 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was reported at $80.43 on January 9, down 16 cents from the previous day. 

USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout value was $1.47 higher in the Monday AM report at $92.83 per cwt. The butt and belly primals were both reported lower, with the rest showing gains led by the ham and rib. Federally inspected hog slaughter for last week was 2.551 million head through Saturday. That was 285,000 head larger than last week and 379,871 head above the same week last year. 

Feb 25 Hogs  are at $83.250, up $1.475,

Apr 25 Hogs  are at $89.750, up $2.400

May 25 Hogs  is at $94.625, up $2.600,
