Cattle Futures Higher on Thursday Sales

Front month fat cattle futures regained another $0.27 to $1.05 from Tuesday’s drop. Dec cattle closed the session at $105.02. Feeders were 50 to 72 cents higher on Thursday with Sept at $136.50. The Feeder Cattle index from CME was listed at $128.65 for 06/03, UNCH from yesterday’s. Reports indicated Thursday live sales at $105 in KS and in TX. The week’s range has been $105 to $118 with the bulk at $117 so far. Dressed sales went for $175 - $185 on Wednesday. Some in NE were confirmed at $180 on Thursday. Beef export sales were a 6-wk high of 12,287 MT. The report also showed that 9,579 MT of beef was shipped on the week ending 05/28. That was down 15% wk/wk and 46% below the same week last year, but 2020 exports are still 7% ahead of last year’s pace. Census data showed that 235m lbs of beef was shipped in April.
