Cattle in Red at Midday

After Digesting CoF numbers, fat cattle futures are down 10 to 57 cents with nearby Feb the weakest. Feeders are trading 7 cents higher to 27 cents in the red at midday. Jan feeders are at $136.67 at midday ahead of Thursday’s expiration. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was up 80 cents on 1/21 to $133.99. Cash trade last week was mostly $109-$111. USDA’s CoF report showed 11.965 million head on feed in feedlots over 1,000 head. That was 7k head above Jan 2020, vs. pre-report trade ideas for a slight drop. December marketings were 1.04% higher yr/yr with 1.853m head. December placements were 1.842m head, up 0.77% yr/yr. Wholesale Boxed Beef prices continue climbing, with $2+ increases for each this morning. Choice boxes were $225.78 in the AM report, and Select boxes were $215.37.
