CME Coffee Futures Market News and Commentary

Coffee Prices Supported by Dry Conditions in Brazil

December arabica coffee (KCZ24) Wednesday closed down -0.10 (-0.04%), and November ICE robusta coffee (RMX24) closed up +31 (+0.58%).

Coffee prices Wednesday settled mixed.  Arabica coffee prices came under slight pressure Wednesday after Rabobank projected that global 2024/25 coffee production would climb by +2.2% y/y to 174 million bags, leaving the world with a small arabica bean surplus.  Losses on coffee were limited as meteorologist Climatempo said most of this week will continue to be hot and dry in Brazil's coffee-producing areas, which could undercut the prospects for Brazil's 2025/26 coffee production.  

Strength in the Brazilian real (^USDBRL) is bullish for arabica coffee prices as the real rallied to a 4-week high against the dollar Wednesday, discouraging export selling from Brazil's coffee producers.
