Lean Hogs Futures Market News and Commentary

Hog Market Drops Triple Digits

Lean hog futures ended the Monday session with $1.25 to $3.27 losses. USDA’s National Average Base hog price was back down by $1.29 on Monday afternoon to $60.51. The WCB average was $64.23, though the ECB was withheld due to confidentiality rules. CME’s 12/2 Lean Hog Index was $70.53 down by 33 cents.  

Pork cutout futures were also red on Monday, having given back $1.70 to $3.32 on the day. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was $83.71 in the PM report, up $2.34. The USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday at 460,000 head. That is down from 483k last week and 488k from the same Monday last season. 

Dec 21 Hogs  closed at $72.050, down $1.950,

Apr 22 Hogs  closed at $83.650, down $2.225

Dec 21 Pork Cutout  closed at $84.950, down $1.675,
