S&P 500 E-Mini Futures Market News and Commentary
The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) on Thursday closed up +0.64%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) closed up +0.68%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) closed up +1.27%.
U.S. stock indexes on Thursday shook off early losses and rallied into the close with the S&P 500 at a 5-1/2 month high, the Dow Jones Industrials at a 1-3/4 month high and the Nasdaq 100 at a new record high. Stocks rallied Thursday on positive U.S. labor market data along with optimism U.S. lawmakers will agree on a virus relief package.
Stocks briefly turned lower Thursday morning after Senate Democratic Leader Schumer said lawmakers had made progress toward a virus relief package, but it wasn't enough to get a deal done. Doubts about reaching an agreement surfaced Wednesday night when Treasury Secretary Mnuchin said, "if we can't reach an agreement on the major issues, it's going to be hard to complete a deal."
