Cattle Finish the Week with Gains

First Notice Day for June cattle begins the delivery period on Monday. June fat cattle futures added another $1.52 to the week’s move on Friday, settling with a net $9.07 gain for the week. That was the largest single week move for the lead month since April of 2020’s $9.67 loss, and was the biggest weekly rally since October of 2017. The other front months settled 10 to 52 cents higher on the day. USDA confirmed cash trade for the week was mostly near $175 - $180 for the South and from $183 - $188 for the North. Feeder cattle closed Friday with 2 to 32 cent gains. The CME Feeder Cattle Index for 6/1 was $208.04, down by 3 cents.  

CFTC’s weekly Commitment of Traders report had managed money firms 5,845 contracts more net long after the week ending 5/30. That left the group 107,835 contracts net long. Feeder cattle spec traders added 581 new longs through the week and were 17,432 contracts net long at the settle.
