The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Monday closed up by +0.47%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) closed up +0.18%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed up +1.04%.
U.S. stock indexes on Monday posted moderate gains, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrials climbing to new all-time highs and the Nasdaq 100 climbing to a 6-week high. Strength in technology stocks was supportive for the overall market Monday, led by a +12% surge in Tesla to a new record high. Also, energy stocks and energy service providers rallied Monday after WTI crude oil climbed to a new 7-year high.
Monday’s U.S economic data was mixed for stocks. On the bullish side, the Oct Dallas Fed manufacturing activity index rose +10.0 to 14.6, stronger than expectations of 6.0. Conversely, the Sep Chicago Fed national activity index fell -0.18 to a 7-month low of -0.13, weaker than expectations of 0.20.
