Brazilian Real Futures Market News and Commentary

Dollar Index Climbs to a New 2-Month High on Hawkish Comments from the St. Lous Fed President

The dollar index (DXY00) on Friday rose +0.337 (+0.37%).  September euro-fx futures (E6U1) closed down -0.0039 (-0.33%), and EUR/USD (^EURUSD) fell -0.0033 (-0.28%).  September yen futures (J6U1) closed up +0.0009 (+0.10%), and USD/JPY (^USDJPY) fell -0.07 (-0.06%). 

The dollar index (DXY00) on Friday extended this week’s rally up to a new 2-month high.  Comments on Friday from St. Louis Fed President Bullard were hawkish for Fed policy and positive for the dollar when he said the debate on Fed tapering would continue in coming FOMC meetings.  EUR/USD dropped to a fresh 2-month low on dollar strength and after Italian Prime Minister Draghi called for more stimulus to restore economic growth to its pre-pandemic level.  USD/JPY fell slightly as the yen strengthened on lower T-note yields.
