Soybean Oil Futures Market News and Commentary

Soy Market Higher on Wednesday

Soybean futures closed the midweek session with gains of 4 3/4 to 7 cents. Nov beans’ premium to July was reduced by 2 1/4 cents to 8 3/4. The new crop soy/corn ratio was 0.024 stronger to 2.647:1. Wednesday soymeal futures closed up by $2.60 to $2.70/ton, with Sept contracts at $290/ton. Bean oil futures closed 7 to 8 points lower. The US national average soybean basis from cmdtyView for June 3rd was 45 cents under July. That compares to 80 cents under from the same day last year. Malaysian palm oil futures were posted the highest close since March 30. Private exporters reported a large export sale of 186,000 MT of soybeans to unknown, with 66,000 MT for old crop and 120k MT for 2020/21 delivery. Analysts estimate that soybean sales from the week ending May 28 were between 0.5 to 1 MMT. New crop bean bookings are estimated at 100k to 550k MT.
