New Zealand Dollar Futures Market News and Commentary
The dollar index (DXY00) on Tuesday fell -0.21 (-0.22%). Dec euro-fx futures (E6Z9) closed up +0.0032 (+0.28%), and EUR/USD (^EURUSD) rose +0.0030 (+0.27%). Dec yen futures (J6Z9) closed down -0.0009 (-0.09%), and USD/JPY (^USDJPY) rose +0.20 (+0.18%).
The dollar index moved lower Tuesday on long liquidation ahead of several risk events this week. The markets are waiting for news on whether the U.S. will go ahead with Sunday's planned 15% tariff hike on $160 billion of imports from China. Also, the markets are waiting for the results of the 2-day FOMC meeting on Wednesday, Thursday's ECB meeting, and Thursday's election in the UK.
USD/JPY erased overnight losses and moved higher Tuesday on reduced safe-haven demand for the yen after Bloomberg reported that U.S. and Chinese trade negotiators are planning to delay the U.S. tariffs scheduled to be imposed on $160 billion of Chinese goods this Sunday, Dec 15.
