Lean Hogs Futures Market News and Commentary
The nearby lean hog future contracts traded lower on Wednesday with a limit loss in June contracts. The deferred front months traded 35 to 97 cents in the green on Wednesday. The CME Lean Hog index was down another $0.73 on June 01, to $59.23. USDA National Average Afternoon Base Hog price for Wednesday was $33.96, down $0.77. The National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was back up by 64 cents at $75.01 in the PM report. Picnic cuts were down the most at minus $11.47 to $49.51 cwt. and hams were up the most with a $10.44 increase to $53.32 cwt. USDA estimated WTD FI hog slaughter at 1.254 million head through Wednesday. This week’s pace is running 164,000 head behind the same week last year.
