U.S. Dollar Index Futures Market News and Commentary
The dollar index (DXY00) on Friday fell -0.011 (-0.01%). Dec euro-fx futures (E6Z0) closed down -0.0005 (-0.04%), and EUR/USD (^EURUSD) fell -0.0008 (-0.07%). Dec yen futures (J6Z0) closed down -0.00123 (-0.12%), and USD/JPY (^USDJPY) rose +0.27 (+0.26%).
The dollar index on Friday fell to a new 2-1/2 year low. Hopes for additional stimulus along with Covid vaccine optimism boosted stocks on Friday and curbed the liquidity demand for the dollar. The dollar added to its losses after U.S. Nov nonfarm payrolls rose less than expected. EUR/USD fell back from a new 2-1/2 year high and posted modest losses on expectations for the ECB to extend its pandemic bond-buying program. USD/JPY moved moderately higher as the yen weakened after Japan's second-largest metropolitan area raised its Covid alert to the highest level on Friday.
