Lean hog futures closed the first trade day of the new week with losses. After dropping form midday gains, futures went home $0.17 to $2.05 in the red. The National Average Base hog price for Monday afternoon was $2.95 higher to $100.36. The CME Lean Hog Index was up 6 cents on 3/2 to $99.70. Â
Pork cutout futures were mostly lower at the close, save for April the front months were down $0.40 to $1.10. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was seen at $106.65 on Monday afternoon, up by $2.66. USDA estimated FI hog slaughter at 479k head for Monday. Last week’s Monday kill was 451k, but the same Monday last year was 491k head. Â
