The dollar index (DXY00) on Thursday rose +0.30 (+0.31%). Sep euro-fx futures (E6U0) closed down -0.0041 (-0.36%), and EUR/USD (^EURUSD) fell -0.0041 (-0.36%). Sep yen futures (J6U0) closed down -0.01 (-0.01%), and USD/JPY (^USDJPY) fell -0.03 (-0.03%).
The dollar index on Thursday recovered from a 4-week low and moved higher after a sell-off in stocks boosted liquidity demand for dollars. The dollar also gained on better-than-expected U.S. economic data.
U.S. stock futures on Thursday retreated on coronavirus concerns, which boosted liquidity demand for the dollar. California on Wednesday reported its biggest jump in coronavirus infections, and Texas reported a record number of coronavirus deaths. Also, Florida, on Thursday, reported a record number of coronavirus deaths and a record increase in hospitalizations of coronavirus patients.
