The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Thursday closed up +0.37%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) closed up +0.43%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed down -0.14%.
U.S. stock indexes on Thursday settled mixed, with the S&P 500 posting a new all-time high and the Nasdaq 100 posting a 1-month high. Positive Q3 earnings results pushed stocks higher Thursday as 84% of the S&P 500 companies that have reported earnings have beaten estimates. Stocks also garnered support on an unexpected drop in U.S. weekly jobless claims to a 19-month low and an increase in Sep existing home sales to an 8-month high. A -9% slump in IBM on Thursday kep the Dow Jones Industrials in the red.
