Coffee Prices Sink as Brazil Rain Forecasts Ease Dryness Concerns

March arabica coffee (KCH26) on Friday closed down -14.70 (-3.95%).  March ICE robusta coffee (RMH26) closed down -25 (-0.64%).

Coffee prices sold off sharply on Friday amid forecasts of rain over central Brazil during the next week, easing dryness concerns.  Also, Friday's rally in the dollar index (DXY00) to a 4-week high weighed on most commodity prices, including coffee.

Robusta coffee has been under pressure this week amid soaring coffee exports from Vietnam, the world's largest robusta producer.  Vietnam's National Statistics Office reported on Monday that Vietnam's 2025 coffee exports jumped +17.5% y/ to 1.58 MMT.

On Thursday, arabica rallied to a 4-week high due to below-average rainfall in Brazil, the world's largest arabica producer.  Somar Meteorologia reported Monday that Brazil's largest arabica coffee-growing area, Minas Gerais, received 47.9 mm of rain during the week ended January 2, or 67% of the historical average.
