Lean hog futures closed 60 cents lower in the April contract, while the other nearbys were up by as much as 60 cents. The National Average Base Hog price for Monday afternoon was 3 cents lower at $97.70. CME’s Lean Hog Index for April 7 was 62 cents lower to $100.06.
Pork cutout futures went home on Monday mixed, with 32 to 97 cent losses and 37 to 60 cent gains. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value for Monday PM was $106.64, up by $3.48. USDA estimated FI hog slaughter at 475k head for Monday. That was 2k below last week and compared to 484k head during the same Monday last year.
