So far for Wednesday, lean hog futures are up 20 to 40 cents in the April, May, and October months. The summer hogs are still a nickel to 22 cents in the red. The National Average Base Hog price for Wednesday AM is $99.38, down by $1.58. CME’s 4/1 Lean Hog Index was $102.41, down by 22 cents.
The pork cutout futures are also mixed, within $2.55 of UNCH. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was $106.62 in the AM report, up by another $3.02 on higher hams. USDA’s FI hog slaughter estimate for Tuesday is 480k head. That is up by 1k head from last week and the same week last year. The WTD total is 957k, up 2k vs. a week ago.
