Lean hog prices are down by triple digits of as much as $3.65. The National Average Morning Base Hog price for Thursday was 17 cents higher to $102.44. WCB hogs averaged $107.40 in the AM report. The CME Lean Hog Index was down by another 8 cents to $100.41 on 3/15.
Export Sales data showed pork sales from the week that ended 3/10 were 38,259 MT. That was up 50% from last week, but still 4% lighter yr/yr. Mexico was the top buyer for the week, having made up 57% of the total. Pork shipments from the week were 26,010 MT, for a YTD total of 290,786.
Pork cutout prices are also down by $1.47 to $2.65 so far for Thursday. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value for Wednesday was $105.02, up by 54 cents. Federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 1.425m head for the week through Wednesday. That is down 4k head from last week and is 47k head behind the same week last year’s pace.
