Live cattle futures came back from midday losses and ended the session with 10 to 30 cent gains, as Feb was 12 cents lower. Feeder cattle continued the midday movement and rallied to a triple digit gain after Wednesday trading. The CME Feeder Cattle Index for 02/18 was 10 cents lower to $141.10. Analysts’ estimates ahead of the Feb release of USDA Cattle on Feed report have on feed at 11.963 million head, which would be 2.4% higher yr/yr. On average, analysts also expect higher yr/yr Jan placements (+1.4%) and Jan marketings (+0.7%). The Fed Cattle Exchange online auction resulted in no sales, 197 TX steers were bid to $119.75, with feedlots passing on offers, and asks of $121 in KS were passed by packers. USDA confirmed the Wednesday reports of $120 sales in TX live cattle, KS trading was light but at the same price.
