Live cattle settled higher in all contracts with Feb 17 finishing 75 cents higher. Feeder cattle futures were also up 40 to 95 cents in most contracts. The CME Feeder Index for 1/18 was $132.25 down 12 cents. Wholesale beef prices were lower in the afternoon USDA report. Choice lost $1.62, and select was down 57 cents with their respective averages now at $191.60 and $187.49. Cash trade was moderate in most feeding regions on Thursday. Live trade was reported $3 to $4 higher ranging from $122 to $123 in Texas, with Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado $3 to $4 higher at $122. Dressed sales were mostly $5 higher at $195. WTD FI slaughter is estimated at 409,000 head vs. 444,000 head for the same week last year.
