Lean hog futures are trading $0.32 to $1.15 in the black so far for Monday. USDA’s National Average Base hog price for Monday morning was $2.17 higher to $66.69. The CME Lean Hog Index from 1/27 was another 86 cents higher to $80.61.
Pork cutout futures are also stronger to start the week, gaining $0.05 to $0.90 so far. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was $99.66, hich was up $3.27. USDA’s estimate for the week’s FI hog slaughter was 2.546m head through Saturday. That is down 114k head from the same week last year, as YTD slaughter is now 11.4% behind 2021’s pace.
