Thursday’s lean hog futures market left the board $1 to $1.77 weaker in the front months. USDA’s National Average Base hog price for 1/27 was $5.53 higher to $73.82. The CME Lean Hog Index from 1/25 was another 75 cents higher to $79.20.
USDA reported pork export sales of 49,054 MT from the week that ended 1/20. That was a 26% increase wk/wk, but was still 8% lower than the same week last year.
Pork cutout futures went home on Thursday with $0.70 to $1.72 losses. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was $3.59 higher in the afternoon report to $3.59. USDA estimated WTD hog slaughter under federal inspection at 1.869m head through Thursday. That is 92k head more than last week’s pace, but trails the same week last year by 55k head.
