October fat cattle are trading 32 cents higher through midday. The other front months are trading through Thursday on 32 to 50 cent losses. There were two sales at $145 on the Thursday FCE for 449 head of the 1,148 head listed. The unsold cattle faced $145 - $146 asks and $144 - $145 bids. USDA confirmed some light Wednesday cash trade at from $146 - $148 in the North and WCB. Front month feeders are 50 to 75 cents in the red through midday. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was 40 cents higher on 10/11 to $175.04.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices from the Thursday AM report saw a 42c cwt. drop in Choice to $264.24 and a 56 cent increase in Select. The federally inspected cattle slaughter was estimated at 384k head for the week through Wednesday. That is up 1,000 head from last week and is 28,000 head more than the same week last year.
