Crude Prices Weaken on Progress in US-Iran Nuclear Talks

March WTI crude oil (CLH26) on Tuesday closed down -0.56 (-0.89%), and March RBOB gasoline (RBH26) closed up +0.0034 (+0.18%).

Crude oil and gasoline prices settled mixed on Tuesday, with crude falling to a 2-week low.  Tuesday's rally in the dollar index ($DXY) to a 1-week high is bearish for energy prices.   Crude Prices also came under pressure on Tuesday after Iran said it has reached a "general agreement" with the US on a nuclear deal.

Geopolitical risks between the US and Iran eased on Tuesday and weighed on crude prices after Iran said it had reached a "general agreement" with the US on a nuclear deal that would lift sanctions on Iran and reduce the risk of war in the Middle East.  Iran's Foreign Ministry said its delegation is "ready to stay longer to finalize any agreement, several days or even weeks."

Crude prices also have a negative carryover from last Friday when Reuters reported that some OPEC+ members see the scope for the group to resume oil product... Read more
