Hogs traded Thursday in both directions, with Dec having printed a $1.43 range. Ultimately the board settled with 5 to 72 cent recoveries for the front months. The USDA National Average Base Hog price for Thursday fell $7.88 to $117.62. The CME Lean Hog Index was down $1.18 to $118 flat on 8/23.
The weekly Export Sales report was retracted due to data quality issues.
Pork cutout futures closed the day 20 to 47 cents higher. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value from Thursday afternoon was down by 33 cents at $102.66. USDA estimated the week’s FI hog slaughter at 1.914m head through Thursday. That is up 44k head wk/wk and is 56k head more than the same week last year.
