Hogs traded Thursday in both directions, with Dec having printed a $1.43 range. Ultimately the board settled with 5 to 72 cent recoveries for the front months. The USDA National Average Base Hog price for Thursday fell $7.88 to $117.62. The CME Lean Hog Index was down $1.18 to $118 flat on 8/23.Â
The weekly Export Sales report was retracted due to data quality issues. Â
Pork cutout futures closed the day 20 to 47 cents higher. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value from Thursday afternoon was down by 33 cents at $102.66. USDA estimated the week’s FI hog slaughter at 1.914m head through Thursday. That is up 44k head wk/wk and is 56k head more than the same week last year.Â
