Lean hogs were down 27 cents to $1.72 in the front months on Thursday, with deferred contracts up 7 to 35 cents. The National Average Base Hog price for the Thursday PM report was $110.51 down $1.18 from the day prior. CME’s Lean Hog Index for 5/17 was 18 cents higher to $100.08.
Thursday morning’s Export Sales report showed pork sales at 24,410 MT, an 8.1% drop vs. last week. Mexico bought 8,400 MT. Export shipments were tallied at 31,252 MT.
Pork cutout futures were down 57 cents. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value was down 15 cents on Thursday afternoon to $103.46. The butt and picnic were lower on the day. FI hog slaughter for Thursday was estimated as 473,000 head, bringing the WTD total to 1.899 million head. That is up 10,000 head wk/wk and 2,000 head above the same week last year.
