Lean hogs are down 25 cents to $1.30 on Thursday. The National Average Base Hog price for Thursday morning was $110.23 up $1.74 from the day prior. CME’s Lean Hog Index for 5/17 was 18 cents higher to $100.08.
Thursday morning’s Export Sales report showed pork sales at 24,410 MT, an 8.1% drop vs. last week. Export shipments were tallied at 31,252 MT.
Pork cutout futures are down 57 cents. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout report was delayed due to packer submission issues. FI hog slaughter for Wednesday was estimated as 479,000 head, bringing the WTD total to 1.426 million head. That is up 9,000 head wk/wk and 8,000 head above the same week last year.
