
Front month lean hog futures were down on Wednesday with $0.15 to $1.42 losses, led by the summer and fall month losses. The National Average Base Hog price for Wednesday afternoon was $108.29 after an 81 cent dip. CME’s Lean Hog Index for 5/9 was flat at $101.09.
Pork cutout futures went home with $0.90 to $3.95 losses on the day. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was 70 cents lower in the PM report to $99.49. FI hog slaughter was figured at 1.423m head for the week through Wednesday. That is down from 1.444m head from the last week’s pace, and is 7,000 head below the same week last year.
