Lean hog futures ended Monday 17 to 85 cents in the red. That was off the lows for the session, but still the 4th red candle day in a row taking nearby April back to Feb 15th levels. The National Average Base hog price for Monday afternoon was $1.62 stronger at $89.40. The CME Lean Hog Index from 2/22 was firm at $98.16.Â
Pork cutout futures went home on Monday with 2 to 60 cent gains. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was $112.27 in the PM report, down by $1.05. The CME Bacon Index was $17.43 higher to $271.50. Federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 470k head for Monday, compared to 493k head during the same Monday last year.Â
