Front month lean hog futures are trading 22 to 82 cents higher through midday of the last trade day for the week. The National Average Base hog price was $85.81 on Friday morning. That is not comparable with yesterday. The CME Lean Hog Index from 2/16 was $0.90 stronger to $94.24.Â
Pork cutout futures are also higher at midday, adding $0.82 to $0.95 to the upside so far. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was back down by 75 cents to $115.79 in the AM update. USDA estimated hog slaughter at 1.885 million head for the week through Thursday. That is down 13,000 head from last week, but compares to 1.76m head during the same week last year. Â
