Lean hog futures pulled back Monday afternoon but were still up from a nickel to $1.20 in the front months. April was at one point up by $2.45 on Monday. USDA’s National Average Base hog price for Monday afternoon was down by $9.35 to $74.52. The WCB base price was $87.10, though the ECB quote was withheld for confidentiality. The CME Lean Hog Index from 2/3 was another $0.97 higher to $84.30.
Pork cutout futures ended the day $0.47 to $1.22 higher in the front months. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value for Monday afternoon was $0.78 higher to $98.19. USDA estimates FI hog slaughter at 481,000 head Monday. That is up 6k from last week, but down by 7k from the same week last year.
