Front month lean hog futures are trading with triple digit gains of $1.25 to $2.60. LUSDA’s National Average Base hog price for Monday morning was $12.61 weaker to $71.83. The WCB base price was $87.52, though the ECB quote was withheld for confidentiality. The CME Lean Hog Index from 2/2 was another $0.04 higher to $83.33.
Pork cutout futures are also triple digits stronger with gains of at least $1.25. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value for Monday morning was $4.06 higher to $101.47. USDA estimates FI hog slaughter at 2.436m head for the week through Saturday and 12.317m head for the year. That compares to 2.673 million and 13.851m last year respectively.
