So far for Friday’s trading, lean hog futures are $0.35 to $1.55 higher. USDA’s National Average Base hog price for Friday morning was down by $2.72 to $84.44. The CME Lean Hog Index from 2/1 was another $0.15 higher to $83.29.
Pork cutout futures are also trading higher through Friday’s midday, gaining $0.80 to $1.25 in the front months. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value for Friday morning was $2.44 higher to $99.65. USDA estimates FI hog slaughter for the week through Thursday at 1.811m head. That is down 58k head from last week’s pace and trails the same week last year by 110,000 head.
