Lean hog futures ended the session with 20 to 77 cent gains for most of the front months. The May and June contracts each faded 20+ cents. USDA’s National Average Base hog price for Monday morning was $2.17 higher to $66.69. The CME Lean Hog Index from 1/27 was another 86 cents higher to $80.61.
Pork cutout futures closed with a nickel gain int the Feb contract and $0.55 to $1.07 gains in the other front months. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was $94.51, which was $1.88 weaker. USDA’s estimate for Monday’s FI hog slaughter was 475k head. That is just 2k below the same Monday last year. The CME Bacon Index was up $9.54 for the week to $200.84.
