Housing Starts (Jan.) Housing starts in China rose by 11% from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted of 282,439 in December of 2025, firmly above market expectations of 260,000, to mark the highest rate in five months.
Canada's International Transactions in Securities (Dec.) Foreign investors added $16.3 billion of Canadian securities to their holdings in November, following a significant investment of $46.6 billion in October.
Meanwhile, Canadian investors acquired $16.5 billion of foreign securities in November, more than offsetting the divestment of $11.6 billion in October.
Wholesale Trade (Dec.) Wholesale sales (excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain) fell 1.8% in November to $84.4 billion.
New Motor Vehicle Sales (Dec.) In November, 150,832 new motor vehicles were sold in Canada, decreasing 6.6% from November 2024.
Consumer Price Index (Jan.) CPI rose 2.4% year over year in December, up from an increase of 2.2% in November. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.3% in December.

On an annual basis, transactions totalled 470,314 units in 2025, a decrease of 1.9% from 2024. The year was characterized by a tariff -induced flight of buyers back to the sidelines in the first quarter, followed by a decent sales rally mid -year, and a bit of a stall to finish off 2025.
