
Nearby lean hog futures are trading 60 to 92 cents lower so far through Monday. The USDA National Average Base Hog price was $4.10 weaker to $75.42 in the Monday AM report. The CME Lean Hog Index was 71 cents higher to $79.13 on 5/18.
Pork cutout futures are also down by $0.70 to $1.57 through midday. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value for Monday morning was $1.30 higher to $85.68. Bellies were up by $11.21 to $86.70. USDA estimated the week’s FI hog slaughter at 2.408 million head through Saturday, for a year-to-date total of 49.376 million. Last year’s pace was 48.664m head at the same point.
