April lean hog futures fell $1.07 on Monday, but the other nearby contracts went home mixed within 40 cents of UNCH. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price for Monday afternoon was $77.91, down by 13 cents. The CME Lean Hog Index was $78.71 on 3/2, up by 6 cents.
Pork cutout futures closed 15 to 80 cents weaker in the front months. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value was $1.76 stronger to $87.33. USDA estimated FI hog slaughter for Monday at 469k head. That is 3,000 head above last year, but is down 11k from last Monday.
