Cattle futures spent Thursday in a tighter $0.95 range, but ultimately settled with 5 to 32 cent losses. Feeder cattle futures traded 45 to 80 cents lower on the day. USDA confirmed Southern cash trade was $2 higher to $150 on Thursday, and Northern deals were $151-$152. The Feeder Cattle Index from CME was 11 cents higher on 10/25 at $174.96.Â
USDA reported weekly beef export bookings were 14,085 MT from the week that ended 10/20. That was down from 16.6k MT last week. Weekly shipments of 17.4k MT took the accumulated total to 771k MT.Â
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were $262.49 in Choice and $231.91 in Select in the PM quotes. That was a $1.63 cwt. boost in Choice and was a $3.31 increase for Select. USDA estimates the WTD cattle slaughter as 512k head through Thursday. That is up 3k head from last week and is 23k head above the same week last year.Â
