Lean hog futures are trading within 10 cents of UNCH past the October contract. October hogs are up by 77 cents so far for midday. After gapping higher at the open and running up through the morning the hog market spent the rest of Wednesday working back lower. Futures still ended up on the day past October, but Dec and Feb closed below their open price. The USDA National Average Base Hog price from Thursday morning was $3.29 weaker to $94.18. The 9/6 CME Lean Hog Index was $101.48, down by $1.78. Â Â
Pork cutout futures are mostly higher through midday, with October up by triple digits. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value was back up by 97 cents to $104.12 cwt. USDA estimated FI hog slaughter for the week at 968k head, compared to 955k head during the same week last year.Â
